I Love Homeschooling

Free Writing Prompts
There are tons of free resources online that are available to homeschoolers. One of the things that I like is Scholastic's Story Starters. This online program is good for budding writers. It asks you to choose from different topics like adventure, fantasy, sci-fi and scrambler. Strawberry Cupcake loves this online exercise. You may want to try it too!

I have no affiliation with Scholastic. I am just a happy customer!

Homeschooling Book
One homeschooling mom recently published a book that encourages and inspires other parents to get started in homeschooling. Tina Razzell, who is the author of Start Homeschooling, has 16 years of homeschooling experience.

Start Homeschooling: Great Education with your child at home may be one of your resources as you explore the world of homeschooling. Just like she said, "homeschooling is an adventure of a lifetime."

TELLING TIME
I find reading-the-clock a challenging task for a preschooler and kindergarten. I tried different approach and materials to teach the concept and what I found very helpful are a set of number flash cards and a clock. Anyway, here are some tips that you can use in your lessons.

1. Hopscotch by 5's - lay down the flash cards on the floor. Let the kids count by 5's as they hop. By counting by 5's, it will help them understand counting the minutes.

2. Apple App Tell Time - if you have an iPad, there are a lot of free or low cost app about learning to tell time. Strawberry Cupcake loves Interactive Telling Time (by the way, I have no affiliations with the app developer. I am just a happy customer!) on iPad.

If you prefer giving your kiddo a paper and pencil to learn to tell time, I made a simple Time Sheet which you can use in your daily learning activities.

You need crayons and pencil to complete this exercise.

SCIENCE ACTIVITY WORKSHEET
We went to a local home improvement store few days ago and thought of getting a bird feeder. Both Strawberry Cupcake and Jumping Bee always wanted to have birds visiting our backyard.

Our very first bird feeder
I know it's already summer so I should be giving the kids some break from homework. Well, I am not very particular with the answers and my red-pen-corrector is not working right now. I just thought it would fun to have a chart to observe our summer bird feeding adventure. Here's how the chart looks like.

What's good about it?
1. Calendar Reading - the chart will teach the kids to read a calendar by shading the month and date when you start the project.
2. Tally Marks - of course, math!
3. Enhance their observation

The Bird Feeder Monitoring Sheet is free for grab. Simply click on this link Bird Feeder Monitoring Sheet to download your own copy.
